The Holyoke Winter Carnival is proud to announce the Holyoke Firefighters Hockey club will square off against the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department in a Guns & Hoses Ice Classic on Sunday January 29, at 12 noon.
The ice hockey friendly will feature two of the areas finest amateur teams in one of six Holyoke Winter Carnival opening events. Here’s some information about each team.

The Holyoke Firefighters club was founded in June of 2008. Our goal was to form a hockey team with our many members of the department who were playing the sport on different teams. Our roster is comprised of 14 City of Holyoke Firefighters. We have added 4 members to fill the ranks. Jim Pijar’s father is a retired Holyoke Firefighter and Jim works for the Chicopee Fire dept. Dan Bresnahan is a former employee of the Board of Health in Holyoke and a recently elected City Councilor. Pat and Brad are friends of the team and all 4 are just as close to us as any other firefighter.
Our goal was to get together, build some camaraderie and raise some monies for local charities. To date our team/club has raised over $15,000 for local charities and causes. We are proud to have the opportunity to put our Department in the public view in a positive manner. Win or lose we enjoy the chance to build relationships with other departments in the area and helping our citizens of this great city.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Hockey Club
Franklin County Sheriff's
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Hockey team was founded in the spring of 2003. Since then, the team has been involved in charity hockey games that have benefited the Wounded Warrior Project, the Turners Falls High School Hockey Program and the Franklin County Hockey Association. The team was the 2005 winner of the Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Cup, and the 2010 winner of the Greenfield “Green Pot” adult hockey tournament. Every player on the team is an employee of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, with the exception of the goalie, who is a long time friend to many on the team.
In the spirit of competition, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Hockey team looks forward to taking on the Holyoke Fire Fighters in the Guns and Hoses Ice Classic.
